Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has removed U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield from her position as the U.S. military representative to the NATO Military Committee.
“Secretary Hegseth has removed U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her position as U.S. representative to NATO’s military committee due to a loss of confidence in her ability to lead. The Defense Department is grateful for her many years of military service,” Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell announced.
In December, the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) sent Hegseth a letter featuring “woke” military leaders. Chatfield was featured on the list.
“As you are aware, the woke takeover of the military is a major threat to our national security. Military leaders should be focused on cultivating excellence, cohesion, and lethality in our armed forces,” the AAF wrote. “Wokeness, on the other hand, seeks to institutionalize promotions based on race rather than merit, turn our troops against each other, and prioritizes ideological purity.”
Chatfield said during a 2015 speech at a “Women’s Equality Day” event that “diversity is our strength.”
Earlier this year, the Trump administration removed U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Linda Lee Fagan, who pushed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Videos showed Fagan discussing DEI outcomes at the Coast Guard Academy.
“We currently have nearly 40 percent women enrolled at the Coast Guard Academy,” Fagan said. “I’m really excited about the talent and diversity I see coming through the academy, I am really excited about the future as we look ahead.”
Hegseth has also directed the Pentagon to shift $50 billion from “woke programs” and use the funds to support President Trump’s priorities.
