The Democratic National Committee (DNC) launched what it is calling the “People’s Cabinet” to combat President Donald Trump’s agenda.
The “People’s Cabinet” is described as a project that will “leverage a deep bench of qualified policy experts, national and local leaders, as well as community voices who – all working together – will cut through the lies and speak directly to the American people about the reality of the Trump administration’s reckless and dangerous agenda,” the DNC said in a press release.
DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a video announcement, “I’ve been traveling across the country nonstop since I started this job, and what I hear over and over is this: Americans want us to challenge Trump’s lies and offer a better alternative.”
“Trump has stacked his Cabinet with out-of-touch billionaires who are causing chaos and hurting working people,” he continued. “That’s why we are launching the People’s Cabinet. It will be made up of experts, leaders, and everyday Americans who will share reliable and accurate information that you can use to fight back.”
The DNC explained in the release that the People’s Cabinet will feature a briefing to “detail the devastating impact of DOGE cuts to Social Security for millions of Americans,” another briefing to “highlight the Trump administration’s reckless economic agenda and attacks on labor,” programming “outlining the impact of the Trump administration’s policies on local communities,” and a virtual roundtable on the “impact of Trump’s economic agenda on farmers and rural communities.”
After Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election, former Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-NC) discussed the possibility of a “shadow cabinet.”
“If Trump attempts to weaponize the Department of Justice against his political opponents with Matt Gaetz at the helm, we could see incoming Senator Adam Schiff as our Attorney General, arguing against replacing our independent prosecutors with Trump loyalists,” Nickel said in the video.
“If Trump seeks to eliminate the Department of Education, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, a former teacher of the year, could step up as Shadow Education Secretary to loudly defend public education in the United States,” he continued. “If Trump orders Marco Rubio to hand Ukraine and much of Eastern Europe to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Congressman Greg Meeks as shadow Secretary of State, could be a strong voice in support of maintaining international relationships and protecting democracy at home and abroad.”
