Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) stated Tuesday that the Democrat Party “will have to change,” but he is uncertain whether it is capable of doing so. Owens made the remark during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily in response to comments from Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who suggested that Democrats must “punch” to win elections in Texas.
“I think that you punch,” Crockett said in a recent interview. “I think you punch. I think you’re ok with — you’re ok with punching.” She continued, “But, like, it’s Ted Cruz. I mean, like, This dude has to be knocked over the head, like, hard, right? Like, there is no niceties with him, like, at all. Like, you go clean off on him, right?”
Owens criticized such rhetoric, arguing that Americans are beginning to recognize the true nature of the Democratic Party. “Well, what happens as we educate ourselves, people like that won’t be in D.C.,” he said. “We’re at a very good point where the Democratic Party is beginning to be recognized for what it is.”
He contended that the party has historically opposed American values and that figures like Crockett are indifferent to issues such as the high illiteracy rates among black children in blue states. “They’re the ones that are against our kids growing, even though we have black Americans like Crockett out there,” Owens said.
Owens believes that while the Democratic Party will be forced to change, Americans are already shifting toward the Republican Party or identifying as Independents. “The American people and are becoming Independent or becoming Republicans, because they know that this is a party that is for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for everybody,” he said.
He contrasted Republican messaging with that of Democrats, emphasizing that Republicans engage in meaningful conversations without resorting to threats or vulgarity. “We articulate ourselves and talk about our vision without cursing, without threatening people,” he said.
Owens expressed optimism about the future of the Republican Party under President Donald Trump’s leadership, calling him “truly the most consequential president in my lifetime.” He believes Americans are ready for positive change and that Republican numbers will continue to grow as a result. “So let them keep doing what they’re doing, and we’re going to continue to get our numbers higher as we move forward,” Owens concluded.
