Trump Removes Biden-Era U.S. Attorneys

President Donald Trump removed numerous U.S. Attorneys associated with the former Biden administration.

Emails sent by the White House’s deputy director for the office of presidential personnel to the attorneys read, “At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as U.S. Attorney is terminated, effective immediately.”

Following the email, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek Barron wrote to his office, as reported by Reuters, “As many of you may know by now, my time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland has come to an end. It has been an honor to lead such a talented and dedicated team.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California announced that U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath departed from her role on February 12.

“It has been an honor to serve as U.S. Attorney, working alongside an exceptional team in this office and forging strong partnerships with our law enforcement agencies and communities in pursuit of justice,” McGrath said. “As I step down from a decades-long career in public service, I remain inspired by dedicated public servants across this district and am proud of all we achieved together.”

McGrath was nominated by former President Joe Biden and sworn in on October 5, 2023.

During the first week of his second term, Trump dismissed 17 Inspectors General (IGs). Several of those terminated from their roles have since filed a lawsuit challenging their dismissals.

“President Trump’s attempt to eliminate a crucial and longstanding source of impartial, non-partisan oversight of his administration is contrary to the rule of law,” the lawsuit states.
