Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) will lead the task force on declassifying records relating to President John F. Kennedy, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Jeffrey Epstein.
Files relating to Sept. 11, 2001, COVID-19, UFOs, and other areas will also be assessed.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Luna reportedly sent letters to various agencies for the records. According to sources familiar with the development, letters have been sent to the State Department, Department of Energy, and the CIA.
President Donald Trump announced plans to declassify the assassination files. The move was part of Trump’s promise for greater government transparency.
“More than 50 years after the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Federal Government has not released to the public all of its records related to those events. Their families and the American people deserve transparency and truth. It is in the national interest to finally release all records related to these assassinations without delay,” the order says.
Luna has advocated for government transparency.
“The biggest thing that I’m constantly hearing from people, and it’s not just me, but I think it’s been generations of congressmen, is that there was a lack of transparency in the federal government,” she told reporters.
Luna added that she has been “entrusted by the Speaker of the House, by the Chairman of the Oversight Committee, and hopefully the White House, to be aiding in transparency for this country.”
