A Bering Air Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, carrying nine passengers and one pilot, vanished from radar on February 6, 2025, while en route from Unalakleet to Nome, Alaska. The aircraft lost contact around 4 p.m. local time, prompting an extensive search operation.
The flight departed Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m. and ceased communication approximately an hour later. The Alaska Department of Public Safety reported the incident, stating that search and rescue teams are working to determine the plane’s last known coordinates.
Adverse winter weather and limited visibility have hindered aerial search efforts. Ground teams from Nome and White Mountain have been deployed, with assistance from the National Guard, Coast Guard, and state troopers. The Nome Volunteer Fire Department has advised residents against forming individual search parties due to safety concerns.
As of 7:00 p.m. local time, search efforts intensified with the deployment of a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 aircraft to conduct an aerial survey of the area. Elmendorf Air Force Base is also providing flight support to aid in the search operations.
The missing aircraft is registered as N321BA. Authorities continue to search for the plane and its occupants.
