President Donald Trump spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast, declaring that Americans should “bring God back into our lives.”
“From the earliest days of our republic, faith in God has always been the ultimate source of strength that beats in the heart of our nation. We have to bring religion back,” Trump said.
He emphasized that America “is and will always be one nation, under God.”
Trump said that religious liberty is “part of the bedrock of the American life, and today we must protect the fundamental freedom with absolute devotion, we must stand strong just like generations of Americans have done on the battlefields all over the world.”
Speaking about the assassination attempt against him, Trump said, “It changed something in me. I feel even stronger. I believed in God, but I feel much more strongly about it.”
“I really believe you can’t be happy without religion, without that belief, I really believe that. I just don’t see how you can be,” Trump added. “Let’s bring religion back. Let’s bring God back into our lives.”
Vice President JD Vance said at the International Religious Freedom Summit that religious freedom will be a priority within the Trump administration.
Describing the difference between “regimes that respect religious freedom and those that do not,” Vance said, “We must be able to look at the catastrophes like the plight of Iraqi Christians over the past three decades and possess the moral to act when something has gone wrong.”
“This administration stands ready to do so,” he declared.
