President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that any successful assassination attempt against him would result in Iran’s complete obliteration. This declaration was made during the signing of an executive order aimed at intensifying pressure on Tehran to prevent the nation from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“If they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end. I’ve left instructions. If they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left,” Trump asserted in response to the threat of assassination by Iran.
Federal authorities have long monitored threats from Iran targeting Trump and other officials. In 2020, Trump ordered a drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s Quds Force, escalating tensions between the two nations.
In November, the Justice Department revealed it had thwarted an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump before the presidential election. The plan involved Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian operative who was instructed by officials to surveil and ultimately kill Trump. Shakeri remains at large in Iran.
In addition to threats against Trump, former officials such as Mike Pompeo and John Bolton have faced Iranian threats due to their hardline stances against the Islamic Republic during Trump’s first term. Recently, Trump revoked government security protection for these individuals.
This development underscores the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, highlighting the potential for further escalation if diplomatic solutions are not pursued.
