FBI agents have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) over efforts to “review and purge” those involved in the January 6 investigations.
The lawsuit describes the agents’ belief that the Trump administration will discover the identities of FBI agents involved in the January 6 investigation and be subsequently terminated or “adverse employment action.”
Agents were told to complete a survey on February 2 detailing their role in the January 6 investigation or the probe into Trump’s classified documents case. The lawsuit alleges the survey is “unlawful and retaliatory.”
“Plaintiffs reasonably fear that all or parts of this list might be published by allies of President Trump, thus placing themselves and their families in immediate danger of retribution by the now pardoned and at-large Jan. 6 convicted felons,” the filing states. “Defendant’s gathering, retention, and disclosure of Plaintiffs’ activities related [to] the acts of former President Trump is a violation of Plaintiffs’ rights under the First Amendment to the Constitution.”
“Shortly after his inauguration, DOJ terminated all of the attorneys who prosecuted Jan. 6 cases,” the lawsuit adds. “These terminations were directed by Mr. Trump. They were politically motivated and unlawful, and were precisely the kind of retribution promised by Mr. Trump.”
The DOJ dismissed more than a dozen officials involved in the prosecution of President Donald Trump under Special Counsel Jack Smith. Acting Attorney General James McHenry stated these individuals could not be trusted to support the president’s agenda.
The lawsuit’s plaintiffs believe a similar purge is being considered for FBI personnel.
American Faith reported that U.S. Attorney for D.C., Ed Martin, launched a probe into U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves’ prosecutions of the Jan 6 protesters. The review centers on the felony obstruction charges brought against several hundred protesters.
