Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly seeking to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington as early as next week. U.S. officials familiar with the initial planning indicated Netanyahu could become the first foreign leader to visit the White House following Trump’s inauguration. Details of the potential visit are expected to develop during the upcoming visit of U.S. Special Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff to Israel.
The White House has not yet confirmed plans for a meeting. Netanyahu’s spokesman, Omer Dostri, stated on social media that no official invitation has been received. Meanwhile, an Israeli official noted Netanyahu is expected to visit the White House in February, though a specific date has not been announced.
Witkoff, who announced his travel plans during a synagogue event in New York City, emphasized the importance of advancing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. He stated, “The execution of the agreement was important, but without correct implementation, we’re going to have a flare-up.” His visit to Israel will focus on ensuring the release of American hostages and reinforcing the fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The ceasefire remains a priority for U.S. and Israeli officials, with efforts aimed at maintaining regional stability and addressing humanitarian concerns.
