Reps. Boebert, Burlison Introduce Bill to Abolish ATF

Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Eric Burlison (R-MO) introduced a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

“The ATF is emblematic of the deep-state bureaucracy that believes it can infringe on constitutional liberties without consequence,” Burlison said in a statement. “If this agency cannot uphold its duty to serve the people within the framework of the Constitution, it has no place in our government.”

Boebert said she “cannot imagine under any circumstance or administration where the ATF serves as an ally to the Second Amendment and law-abiding firearm owners across America.”

“As co-chair of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, I’m eager to continue this effort with Rep. Burlison to defend our constitutional rights,” she noted. “The ATF should be abolished before they eventually abolish our Second Amendment.”

On X, the congresswoman said, “The time has come. ABOLISH THE ATF!”

The bill, called Abolish the ATF, is designed “to safeguard Americans’ Second Amendment rights” and “protect law-abiding gun owners from the relentless bureaucratic overreach,” a press release explains.

Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) previously called the agency a “disaster.”

He told Fox News in November, “For decades, they’ve been a disaster agency, and they’ve been violating the Second Amendment. Every time they try to get involved, they mess things up. They have a long history of mistakes…This is an agency that just continues to violate citizens’ rights and Second Amendment rights, and I think that at the end of the day, this agency needs to be abolished.”
