Trump Calls Possible Government Shutdown a ‘Biden Problem’

President-elect Donald Trump said the need to pass a spending bill is “a Biden problem,” emphasizing that it is better for a government shutdown to occur now than when Trump takes office.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “If there is going to be a shutdown of government, let it begin now, under the Biden Administration, not after January 20th, under ‘TRUMP.’ This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!”

On Thursday evening, 38 Republicans voted against a continuing resolution backed by Trump. The bill failed to secure a two-thirds majority of the House.

Trump said of the bill prior to the vote, “SUCCESS in Washington!”

“Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People,” he wrote on social media. “The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes.”

“A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well – The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish.”

“All Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote ‘YES’ for this Bill, TONIGHT!” he wrote.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told reporters that another vote would be had Friday morning.
