Democratic Senator John Fetterman (PA) officially endorsed New York Rep. Elise Stefanik (R) as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
“Always was a hard YES for [Stefanik], but it was a pleasure to have a conversation,” he posted on X. “I support defunding UNRWA for its documented Hamas infiltration and fully look forward to her holding the [U.N.] accountable for its endemic antisemitism and blatant anti-Israel views.”
The statement followed Stefanik explaining that Fetterman hosted a “very productive meeting where we discussed our shared commitment to standing with Israel and combating antisemitism.”
“Senator Fetterman shared his ideas for strong national security leadership and I highlighted my ideas on implementing President@realDonaldTrump’s America First peace through strength national security agenda,” she wrote.
Fetterman has expressed support for several other Trump nominees, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Last month, Fetterman wrote on X, “Unsurprisingly, the other team’s pick will have political differences than my own. That being said, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio
is a strong choice and I look forward to voting for his confirmation.”
In a recent interview with Fox News, Fetterman said he does not understand why it’s “controversial” to say he would vote to confirm some of Trump’s nominees, The Hill reported.
“There’s some people that I just couldn’t be able to vote for that, and there’s some that might be able to enthusiastically vote yes,” he said.
“I think there’s good things there, and there’s some things that I can’t vote for, but that’s what happens when the other team wins,” he added. “And I don’t understand why it’s controversial to say.”
