House Republicans are demanding that the inspector general open an investigation into FEMA after the entity allegedly discriminated against Trump supporters in its hurricane relief efforts.
House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Sam Graves (R-MO) and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) sent a letter to Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, urging him to probe the “multiple allegations of the deliberate avoidance of homes with Trump campaign or political signs during the agency’s response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.”
“The actions taken by FEMA supervisors in directing employees to avoid homes that displayed Trump campaign signs or flags are disturbing and raise serious questions about the culture and political bias that permeates FEMA leadership,” the letter, first shared with The Daily Wire, adds. “The Committee is increasingly concerned that this discriminatory practice of avoidance was more widespread than reported, and could have harmed victims who may still be unaware of the Federal relief benefits available to them.”
According to the lawmakers, Cuffari’s office “plays a crucial role in bringing transparency and accountability to the agency.”
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer recently revealed that a whistleblower claimed a FEMA contractor told a family that the agency views Trump supporters as “domestic terrorists.”
“My staff just made contact with a new whistleblower who provided a credible account that a FEMA contractor visited the home of an elderly disabled veteran’s family around October 10. While there, he recommended that the family remove Trump campaign materials and signs from their house and yard, stating that his FEMA supervisors view Trump supporters as domestic terrorists,” Comer said. “The elderly homeowners were so frightened by this and afraid that they would not recover their loss that they removed the signs. Nevertheless, FEMA has not returned to their residence. This took place not in Florida, but Georgia,” he continued.
