A recent poll from the University of California at Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times found that almost half of California voters would support Vice President Kamala Harris if she ran for California Governor.
According to the poll, 72% of Democrats would be likely or somewhat likely to support Harris. Among Republicans and Independents, 8% and 38%, respectively, said they would be likely or somewhat likely to support Harris in a possible gubernatorial run.
Among all likely voters surveyed, 46% said they would be inclined to support Harris.
Mark DiCamillo, the director of the Berkeley IGS Poll, said, “Nearly all voters in this state have an opinion of her, and that’s really the big advantage that she brings to an early poll,” adding, “None of the other candidates are as well known to the voting public.”
Harris has not indicated that she intends to run for California Governor in 2026.
When asked who they would vote for among the candidates who have announced a gubernatorial campaign, the majority of voters (52%) said they were undecided. Rep. Katie Porter (D) is the candidate with the greatest support, with 13% of surveyed voters supporting her as either their first or second choice.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and state Senator Brian Dahle, both Republicans, are also preferred gubernatorial picks. Twelve percent of voters consider Bianco their first or second gubernatorial choice, and 11% of voters consider Dahle their first or second choice for governor.
The poll was conducted between October 22-29, before the U.S. Presidential Election, and surveyed 4,848 registered voters in California.
