A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer has been arrested and charged for allegedly leaking classified information about Israel’s plan to strike Iran for its earlier missile attack.
The New York Times reported that Asif W. Rahman was arrested in Cambodia on two counts of violating the Espionage Act.
Rahman held a top-secret security clearance with access to sensitive compartmentalized information, court documents said.
According to the report, the leaked documents contained details on satellite images that pointed to a possible strike on Iran by Israel. The information was intended to only be viewed by members of the “Five Eyes” alliance, which includes the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Officials were notified of the leak after a Telegram account linked to Iran shared the documents.
The indictment, obtained by Fox News, said Rahman “willfully retained the document and failed to deliver it to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it, and attempted to and did, in fact, willfully communicate, deliver, transmit, and cause to be communicated, delivered, and transmitted that document to a person not entitled to receive it.”
The FBI previously said it was investigating the matter and “working closely with our partners in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.”
