Leftist DA Loses Los Angeles Re-Election

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón lost his reelection bid to Nathan Hochman.

Results from Los Angeles County indicate that Gascón received 38.54% of the vote, whereas Hochman received 61.46% of the vote.

“The voters of Los Angeles County have spoken and have said enough is enough of D.A. Gascón’s pro-criminal extreme policies; they look forward to a safer future,” Hochman said in a statement. “As D.A., I look forward to representing all of the people, whether they voted for me or not, since their safety will be my responsibility.”

According to Fox News, Hochman described himself as a “hard-middle” candidate. He previously ran as a Republican for California Attorney General but lost to Rob Bonta.

The prosecutors’ union called Hochman’s success a “pivotal moment in the fight to return balance and accountability to the justice system,” the outlet reported.

Gascón survived two recall attempts after the efforts failed to qualify for the ballot. He also co-authored a ballot measure passed in 2014 that downgraded some low-level drug and property crimes to misdemeanors rather than felonies. Parts of that measure were reversed on Tuesday as Californians passed Proposition 36.

A report from The Daily Caller detailed the millions of dollars Gascón received from a PAC funded by George Soros. Between 2018 and 2021, Soros gave more than $6 million to the California Justice & Public Safety PAC’s, which then supported Gascón and Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price.

Records show that Gascón received more than $4.5 million from the PAC for his 2020 campaign. No expenditures were recorded after 2023.
