Trump Wins Popular Vote

President-elect Donald Trump is poised to win the popular vote, the first Republican to do so in twenty years.

At the time of reporting, Trump received 71,939,240 votes, while Vice President Kamala Harris received 67,099,536.

The last time a Republican won the popular vote was in 2004. At that time, President George W. Bush received 62,040,610 votes against John Kerry’s 59,028,444 votes.

According to Axios, prediction markets gave Trump a 43% chance of winning the popular vote. In mid-August, the chances of Trump securing the popular vote were less than 20%.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Trump “not only earned a sweeping electoral victory, he earned a mandate for change.”

“The scope of the victory — electoral swing state domination, popular vote victory, and a Republican-controlled Senate — represents a decisive rejection of the Biden-Harris administration,” he wrote on X. “Roughly 75% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track. With last night’s results, that is likely to change for the better very soon.”
