A U.S. Postal Service worker is under investigation after allegedly dumping hundreds of Republican campaign mailers in a dumpster outside a Pennsylvania grocery store.
The incident reportedly occurred at a ShopRite in Pennsylvania, where witnesses spotted a woman who appeared to be wearing a USPS uniform throwing out approximately 300 mailers. The mailers were meant to promote Congressman Kean, who is seeking re-election in New Jersey.
An official from ShopRite’s security company said, “We saw her dump it,” referring to the GOP ballots in a dumpster outside the Brodheadsville store.
The Kean campaign mailers were designated for voters in Succasunna, located in Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey. This area is recognized as one of the most strongly Republican municipalities in New Jersey’s 7th district.
USPS spokesperson Xavier Hernandez responded to the allegations claiming that “The Postal Service is aware of the allegation of mishandled mail. We have full confidence in our more than 640,000 employees who are committed and actively working to deliver the nation’s election mail securely and in a timely manner. We have referred this incident to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and have nothing further to offer.”
Kean tweeted about the event, saying, “I hope the USPS acts swiftly to resolve whatever crimes have been committed, and I urge them to be open and transparent about the specifics of this incident. Protecting the integrity of our democracy is imperative.”
