Germany Criticizes Ukraine’s ‘Victory Plan’

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Victory Plan.”

“It is important to realise that a country at war absolutely cannot become a member of NATO… everyone knows that, there is no disagreement on this subject,” Scholz told German broadcaster ZDF.

While NATO has a “perspective” on Ukraine’s plan to join the alliance, Scholz said there is “currently no need for any new decision.”

Zelensky’s first point in his “Victory Plan” was an invitation to join NATO.

“Determination on the NATO issue for Ukraine also means the inevitability of European integration for Ukraine and the fact that there is no alternative to democracy in Ukraine,” Zelensky said. “That is why this is the initial point of the Victory Plan. The first and very important point. The sign of determination. This is what the invitation is. An unconditional invitation right now,” the President emphasized.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said during a recent press conference that “Ukraine will join the Alliance, of course, when the time is right.”
