North Korea has destroyed parts of the road on the Gyeongui Line and parts of the road and rail routes of the Donghae Line in South Korea.
According to the Associated Press, the roads and rail lines were “unused.” The outlet noted that the explosions symbolize North Korea’s “growing anger against South Korea’s conservative government.”
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said its military fired warning shots in response to the explosions.
“The military is closely monitoring North Korean activities and has reinforced surveillance and alert posture in cooperation with the U.S., maintaining a state of full readiness,” the JCS declared.
JCS spokesperson Col. Lee Sung-jun said that if North Korea provokes South Korea, it will “strongly retaliate in terms of our right to self-defense.”
The explosions come as North Korea accused South Korea of sending drones over Pyongyang.
