The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have eliminated a commander for Hamas who was key to planning the October 7 attack on Israel.
“In a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet forces, the fighters of the 401st Brigade identified a number of terrorist squads using drones, the forces directed Air Force aircraft that eliminated the terrorists,” the IDF wrote on X. “In the attack, the commander of the ‘Tel Sultan’ battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, and three other company commanders from the battalion were killed.”
In a subsequent post, the IDF wrote, “In the attack and other attacks, the chain of command of the Tel Sultan battalion was eliminated, as well as dozens of other terrorists from the battalion. The commander of the ‘Tel Sultan’ battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, took a significant part in planning the raid into Israel on October 7 and promoted the preparation plan of the Rafah Brigade before the entry of IDF forces into the area.”
“In addition, he initiated, led and planned dozens of terrorist plots against the IDF forces and the State of Israel,” the IDF added.
