Republican presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, has vowed to protect the rights of those who disagree with him and the GOP. Ramaswamy took the stage on Tuesday during the Republican National Convention and emphasized the importance of defending constitutional freedoms for all Americans, regardless of their political affiliations.
Ramaswamy, known for his outspoken conservative views, surprised many by stating, “Our message to Gen Z is this: You’re gonna be the generation that actually saves this country. You wanna be a rebel? You wanna be a hippie? You wanna stick it to the man? Show up on your college campus and try calling yourself a conservative. Say you wanna get married, have kids, teach them to believe in God, pledge allegiance to their country, because you know what? Fear has been infectious in this country, but courage can be contagious, too.”
He continued on, saying, “If you’re at home, and you disagree with everything I just said, our message to you is this: We will still defend to the death your right to say it, because that’s who we are as Americans. We are the country where we can disagree like hell and still get together at the dinner table at the end of it. That is the America I know. That is the America we miss.”
Ramaswamy’s pledge to stand up for freedom of speech, even for those on the opposite side of the political aisle, comes at a pivotal moment in history. For the past eight years, conservatives have endured cancel culture and extreme political harassment from the left; not to mention everything the Trump family has endured including the attempted assassination of former president Trump.
Those who spoke at the RNC emphasized the importance of a unified front for Republicans, but Ramaswamy’s push for unity as a nation is timely, as many are still recovering from the shockwaves of July 13.
Vivek Ramaswamy concluded his speech by saying, “If we can revive that dream over group identity and victimhood and grievance, then nobody in the world … is gonna defeat us.”
