Media outlets such as CNN and the Washington Post have issued misleading headlines following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
While it has since been updated, CNN originally ran a headline claiming Trump fell during the rally.
“Secret Service rushes Trump off stages after he falls at rally,” the headline read.
The Washington Post ran a story saying Trump was “rushed off stage” after “loud noises” were heard at the rally.
A similar headline was run by USA Today, which reported: “Trump removed from stage by Secret Service after loud noises startles former president, crowd.”
MSNBC also downplayed the event, saying there were “loud popping noises.”
