House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has issued subpoenas for three of Biden’s aides.
The subpoenas have been issued to Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations Ashley Williams, Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the First Lady Anthony Bernal, and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini.
These aides have formed a “protective bubble” around the president, a former aide told Axios. “He’s staffed so closely that he’s lost all independence. POTUS relies on staff to nudge him with reminders of who he’s meeting, including former staffers and advisers who Biden should easily remember without a reminder from Annie.”
Comer said in a statement: “The White House has shielded three key aides from testifying about President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents and now we’ve learned through reporting these same aides are also seeking to cover up President Biden’s declining cognitive state inside the White House.”
He explained that Biden is “clearly unfit for office, yet his staff are trying to hide the truth from the American people. Key White House staff must come before our committee so we can provide the transparency and accountability that Americans deserve.”
The letters to Assistant to the President and White House Counsel Edward Siskel note that the aides likely have “firsthand knowledge of the extent to which President Biden is personally carrying out the duties of his office and whether he is capable of doing so.”
Comer wrote that the aides may be “running interference on behalf of the President and perhaps doing some of the President’s job for him.”
The committee “seeks to understand the extent of [the aides’] influence over the President and [their] knowledge of whether the President is personally discharging the duties of his office,” the letters, each regarding one of the three aides, add.
The three aides are ordered to testify before the committee July 23 through July 25.
Comer has also demanded that Dr. Kevin O’Connor, President Joe Biden’s physician, testify regarding the president’s medical assessments and any association with the Biden family’s business dealings.
The chairman sent O’Connor a letter earlier this week, writing that the committee “is concerned your medical assessments have been influenced by your private business endeavors with the Biden family.”
“To understand the extent of your involvement in the Biden family’s financial activity, we request that you produce all documents and communications in your possession regarding Americore and James Biden,” Comer wrote. “Additionally, the Committee requests you make yourself available for a transcribed interview with Committee counsel.”
