The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that all Americans receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine.
“CDC recommends everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 this fall and winter whether or not they have ever previously been vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine,” a statement reads.
“Updated COVID-19 vaccines will be available from Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer later this year. This recommendation will take effect as soon as the new vaccines are available.”
The statement claims that the vaccine can “restore and enhance protection against the virus variants currently responsible for most infections and hospitalizations in the United States.”
The recommendation comes as a House Judiciary subcommittee held a hearing that revealed the “FDA & CDC cut corners to approve and promote Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote on social media.
“In the face of new information about serious side effects, the FDA’s top vaccine reviewers were pressured to speed up, so vax mandates could issue,” he added.
“Let’s be clear, the mantra since the first days of the COVID-19 pandemic was that the government would follow the science in all aspects of the pandemic response,” Massie said. “But the administration’s objective from the beginning was to act with more urgency than caution.”
The push for the last vaccines comes despite numerous studies highlighting the vaccine’s adverse effects and health concerns.
One inoculation in the works, a COVID-flu combination injection, seeks to “improve compliance” among those with vaccine hesitancy.
According to Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel, combination vaccines may “improve compliance” with inoculation campaigns.
He said in a statement that combination vaccines “have the potential to reduce the burden of respiratory viruses on health systems and pharmacies, as well as offer people more convenient vaccination options that could improve compliance and provide stronger protection from seasonal illnesses.”
The vaccine showed an “acceptable tolerability and safety profile,” Moderna noted, although there were adverse side effects.
