In response to the growing worry among voters about immigration in the 2024 presidential contest, President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Tuesday that aims to close the US-Mexico border once the number of migrants crossing reaches a predetermined threshold.
With the president’s orders, the US will be able to bar asylum seekers from entering the country through unofficial ports of entry.
Biden stated that the border security bill has been the product of negotiations. He said it was “the strongest border security agreement in decades” and claimed Trump was the one who spoiled it.
Biden added that Trump supposedly said he didn’t want to fix the issues and he’d rather use the border crisis against him. Biden also said he was slipping past Republican obstacles by invoking his executive authority to do what he wanted to address the border.
Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that the new rules are part of an administration effort to strengthen the border.
