Steve Bannon Submits to New York Police Over New Charges

“Nothing more than a partisan political weaponization of the criminal justice system,” said Bannon.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Former Trump advisor and WarRoom podcast host Steve Bannon surrendered to New York police over charges regarding his participation in the “We Build the Wall” fundraising campaign.
  • “We Build the Wall” is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for creating a physical barrier between the US-Mexico southern border.
  • The indictment accuses Bannon of money laundering, stating donations were redirected to the CEO of “We Build the Wall” despite the many claims the CEO would not be paid.
  • According to the document, Bannon and an individual known as “Unindicted Co-Conspirator 1” “solicited donations and raised money from donors throughout the United States, including several hundred from New York County” under the impression that none of the donations “would be used to pay Unindicted Co-Conspirator 1’s salary.”
  • “There cannot be one set of rules for everyday people and another for the wealthy and powerful,” said New York Democrat Attorney General Letitia James. “We all must play by the same rules and must obey the law.”
  • “Mr. Bannon took advantage of his donors’ political views to secure millions of dollars which he then misappropriated. Mr. Bannon lied to his donors to enrich himself and his friends,” Attorney General James described.
STEVE BANNON RESPONDS:
  • “Just days after being swatted three different times by deranged thugs from New York City inspired by the Biden Administration to assassinate me by police,” said Bannon, “the Soros-backed DA has now decided to pursue phony charges against me 60 days before the midterm election because WarRoom is the major source of the MAGA grassroots movement.”
  • “They are coming after all of us, not only President Trump and myself,” Bannon continued. “I am never going to stop fighting. In fact, I have not yet begun to fight. They will have to kill me first.”
BACKGROUND:
  • Bannon pleaded not guilty to a federal indictment over a similar wall-related matter and was ultimately pardoned by President Trump, describing the ordeal as a “political hit job.”
  • Bannon was also convicted of contempt of Congress for deliberately disregarding a subpoena in connection to the January 6th investigation.
  • Just before Biden addressed the nation on September 1, 2022, policemen appeared at Bannon’s home due to a “fake call.”
  • Another politically-motivated “swatting” incident occurred in the home of Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), when police were notified of a shooting taking place at that address.
  • Police received a second phone call from a suspect accepting responsibility for the initial call, stating they were “upset” with Greene’s opposition to transgender rights.
