An elderly man from Hancock, Michigan, is in critical condition after he was the victim of a “politically motivated” attack, according to police.
The man was putting up a pro-Trump yard sign when a Honda ATV ran him over.
The vehicle’s driver then began to remove the yard signs, running the man over again when he tried to place the signs back.
“On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Hancock Police Department responded to three different incidents that appeared to be politically motivated. Two of the incidents involved vehicles that were intentionally vandalized,” a press release reads. It went on to describe the “same subject driving an ATV (4-wheel) allegedly with intention to do harm” pulling into the yard and “running over an 80-year-old male who was posting a political sign in his yard.”
“The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical condition,” the release states.
“Be aware, the subject appeared to target both Trump and Law Enforcement supporters,” it adds.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man, has since been found deceased. According to reports, police received a message from an individual who wanted to confess to criminal activity involving an ATV driver.
When authorities arrived, the man was found deceased with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
