CBN News traveled to northwest Brazil to witness the surge of evangelical Christianity in the region, an area with a history of Catholicism.
Sixty percent of the Amazon rainforest is located in northwest Brazil, CBN News reported, describing the years of mission efforts by evangelicals to bring the gospel to those in the Amazon.
Pastor Josué Bengtson of Belem Foursquare Church told the outlet that when evangelical Christians began evangelizing the region, they had “just a few workers and, in some municipalities, pastors had to walk 10 to 15 km to open a congregation.”
More than 3,000 Foursquare congregations are now present in the region.
Bengston declared that in the first six months of 2024, 14,500 people were baptized. “Our goal for this year is to baptize over 30,000 people,” he said.
“I think that the revival that we have been waiting for here in Brazil is happening in the Amazon,” Brazilian sociologist José Eustaquio Alves said.
Similar revivals have occurred within Muslim communities.
CBN News shared last month that “an unprecedented number of Muslims are choosing to follow Christ” in the Middle East.
Thousands of mosques are reportedly closing in Iran as Muslims are leaving Islam and choosing Christ.
Don Shenk, executive director of The Tide Ministry, told the outlet that the ministry’s radio broadcasts have led to listeners saying, “[N]ow I understand that God loves me. I always thought that God wanted to punish me.”
He added that he believes “there’s an awakening that is taking place across the Muslim world, not just in Iran.”
