While the House of Representatives passed the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, 145 Democrats voted against the bill.
The bill, passed by 213 Republicans and 61 Democrats, would deport illegal immigrants “who have been convicted of or who have committed sex offenses or domestic violence,” it says.
“More of our colleagues from the Left side of the aisle voted to pass H.R 30 this time around because they have no elections coming up this year, and no open-borders presidential candidate to defend,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said after the vote. She introduced the bill in the 118th Congress, but it was not taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said during the bill’s debate, as per Fox News, that the legislation “does absolutely nothing to address the needs of the American people” and “widens the highway to Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans.”
Upon the bill’s passage, House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement, “American men, women, and children demand and deserve safety, especially after the Biden Administration opened our border and welcomed dangerous illegal aliens into our communities. House Republicans just passed the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act to ensure illegal aliens convicted of heinous crimes, like child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence, are deported and kept out of our country.”
He said the “commonsense solution should be an overwhelmingly bipartisan effort, but the American people must know only 28% of House Democrats voted to protect women from these predators.”
