Why Is California Hiding Its Voter Rolls?

A federal prosecutor went public this weekend with something California does not want you to read. Bill Essayli, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, announced that the state is actively blocking a federal audit of its voter rolls. The Department of Justice, led by Harmeet Dhillon, has been trying to obtain California's voter registration records for over a year. The legal authority is clear: the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1960 all grant the federal government the right to review these records.
