Trump Files Defamation Lawsuit Against ABC News Over Stephanopoulos Interview

Former President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News regarding a George Stephanopoulos interview where the anchor claimed Trump had been found liable for rape.

According to Reuters, the lawsuit alleges that Stephanopoulos, the host of “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” made false statements by asserting that Trump had been found liable for rape by multiple juries. This assertion was made during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) on March 10, where Mace was questioned about endorsing a candidate accused of the same crime she had spoken about experiencing herself.

In response to Stephanopoulos’ line of questioning, Mace accused him of “rape-shaming” her and called for Trump to sue the anchor for defamation. She emphasized that Trump had not been convicted of rape in either a criminal court or a civil case.

Mace’s comments came during an interview with right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk after the ABC interview aired. She criticized Stephanopoulos for bringing up her past trauma and suggested that his actions opened ABC News and “This Week” to potential legal liabilities.

Trump’s lawsuit, filed in Florida on Monday, seeks to address the alleged defamation stemming from Stephanopoulos’ interview remarks.
