Rice Now Climate Change Target

Rice feeds over half the world.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Climate change alarmists have turned to rice as a source contributing to methane emissions.
  • “Rice is to blame for around 10 percent of global emissions of methane,” AFP News Agency asserts.
  • “Scientists say that if the world wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, rice cannot be ignored,” the news organization added.
  • Rice is a dietary staple for over half of the world’s population, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as “over 50 percent of the world population depends on rice for about 80 percent of its food requirements.”
  • “ What accounts for the 10% of global emissions of methane,” a video from AFP asks. “It’s not belching cows or landfills, but rice. Scientists say if the world wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the staple crop cannot be ignored.”
  • Rice has a “standing water layer in the field, which means there’s no exchange of air between the soil and the atmosphere,” stated Bjoern Ole Sander from the International Rice Research Institute.
  • “So that means you have in the soil anaerobic conditions, and that means there are different bacterias active in the soil than you would find in wheat or maize,” Sander continued.
  • “Under the Global Methane Pledge, Vietnam and several other major rice producers in Asia have vowed to cut emissions by 30% between 2020 and 2030. But the two largest producers, China and India, failed to sign,” AFP said in the video.
REACTIONS TO THE VIDEO:
  • One Twitter user stated that eliminating “rice or wheat from production” is “sinister” and would “trigger global famine.”
  • Others took to Twitter to condemn the globalist push for humans to consume bugs.
  • “If the alternative to eating rice is bugs and meat grown in a petri dish, then bring on the greenhouse gasses,” said writer John Hawkins.
  • “Oh no, rice distribution warehouses are about to start mysteriously exploding,” another tweet said.
BACKGROUND:
  • American Faith reported that 60% of likely American voters believe climate change alarmism has become a “religion” that “actually has nothing to do with the climate.”
  • The survey drew upon Vivek Ramasamy’s recent statement that climate change is a religion that “actually has nothing to do with the climate” and is instead about power and control.
