North Dakota leftist sentenced to just 5 years in prison for killing a conservative teenager.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Leftist Shannon Brandt of Glenfield, North Dakota will spend just 5 years in prison for the killing of conservative teenager Cayler Ellingson.
  • Cayler Ellingson, 18, was found dead in September 2022 after Brandt, 41 told a 911 dispatcher that he used his car to run down Ellingson because he was a “Republican extremist.”
  • The teen was reportedly at a street dance waiting for his mother to pick him up and was found in the alleyway where he was struck.
  • Brandt will allegedly receive credit for the nearly one year he’s already spent in jail in connection with Ellingson’s death.
  • The left-wing radical’s sentencing comes after he had already made a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty in Ellingson’s death in exchange for facing just up to one decade in prison.
  • Cayler’s mother, Sheri Ellingson, requested that the judge not follow the plea agreement and give him the maximum sentence for manslaughter.
  • “Shannon, you took a piece of our family that’s not replaceable. When you chose to take Cayler’s life and happiness you took ours too. You have caused our family endless pain, heartache, sleepless nights. Our days, months, and years will never be the same because of your selfishness,” Ellingson said.
LEFTIST SHANNON BRANDT ON KILLING TEENAGER CAYLER ELLINGSON:

“He got on my vehicle and I couldn’t get him away from me,” Brandt said. “He was threatening me. He was saying something about some Republican extremist group, saying, ‘I thought he was part of us.’”

BACKGROUND:
  • In September 2022, North Dakota law enforcement officials stated they believed there was “no evidence” that Ellingson was a “Republican extremist.”
  • Brandt reportedly felt threatened by Ellingson who, according to his mother, the family knew to some extent.
  • However, North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind claimed there was no evidence that the teen was an extremist as the alleged attacker claimed: “There is no evidence to support the claim Brandt made about Ellingson,” Niewind said in a statement.
  • “This remains an active investigation and as evidence is gathered and reviewed, we will consult with the Foster County State’s Attorney to determine if Brandt’s current charges will remain as currently charged or if additional charges will be brought against him,” Niewind added.
  • Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and others spoke out about the violent consequences of the political divide in this nation, with Paul calling on President Joe Biden to pay attention to the issue.
  • “Words can have violent consequences,” Paul, who was the victim of political violence in 2020, told reporters. “President Biden needs to realize that his vilification of his opponents is inflaming some of his supporters to violence. As a victim of political violence, both sides need to recognize the consequences of heated rhetoric.”
