  • Number 10 on the list was Austin, Texas, with an excessive drinking rate of 21.4%.
  • Excess drinking rates were calculated with the percentage of a city’s adult population that reviewed binge or heavy drinking in the last month.
  • Portland, Oregon ranked number 9 on the list and also had a 21.4% excessive drinking rate.
  • The next city was Sacramento, CA, followed by New Orleans, LA, and Pittsburg, PA.

BACKGROUND:
  • In May, American Faith reported that a New York City hotel housing illegal immigrants became a hot spot for drugs and underage drinking.
  • The hotel in Times Square is no longer open to the public, exclusively housing thousands of migrants.
  • “It doesn’t look good. Now we open the window, and if they are smoking marijuana, all the smoke [starts] coming inside. People get uncomfortable,” said Gustavo Rosario, who manages a bar across the street from the hotel.
