In two weeks, California holds its June 2 gubernatorial primary. Sixty-one candidates are on the ballot. Republicans have consolidated behind two: Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and Trump-endorsed political commentator Steve Hilton. Democrats have seven major candidates, none of whom has managed to break away from the pack. The result is a crowded Democratic field splitting its votes into thin slices, while Republicans stand a real chance of claiming both top-two spots and locking Democrats out of the November general election entirely.
